In Malagasy, it is called Voatsiperifery, which means "fruit of the tree". Rare and highly prized, wild black pepper grows only at high altitudes in the forests of Madagascar. When fully ripe, it has an alluring bright red color, while the small oval pods, reddish-brown in color, have a characteristic dark brown stem and are hand-picked and processed by the local population.
This extraordinary pepper is a true explosion of fragrance, with long-lasting fruity notes and citrus and floral undertones.

Used just like black pepper, it has a pleasantly fresh flavor with spicy hints of fruit and wood. It is also delicious when added to fresh fruit salads, ice creams, sorbets, and sweet-sour dishes.
